BLS Instructor Course

The BLS Instructor Essentials is the classroom/hands-on component of the AHA BLS Instructor Certification course. This intensive 8-hr course will teach the participant how to effectively teach a BLS Provider course, while improving their own proficiency in providing CPR.  Participants MUST provide documentation of prior completion of the AHA Instructor Essentials On-line portion (not included in price), as well as a current copy of their BLS Provider Card. The student will be provided, as part of the course fee, an Instructor Packet which includes an Instructor Manual and DVD set required to teach an AHA BLS CPR class. (A $150 value). Participants will be affiliated with Owens Community College as their AHA Training Center and will learn the policies and procedures required. Participants will also be given the opportunity to instruct future OCC CPR courses as an adjunct. 

Pre-Requisites

• Hold a current American Heart Association, BLS Provider Certification, copy of card must be provided.

• Completion of two teachbacks prior to instructing on your own.  You will need to attend two of our classes here at OCC and complete the teachbacks while our instructor monitors you.  The first one would consist of observing, helping with equipment, etc.  For the second, you will be facilitating the entire class.

e-Learning courses cover the cognitive portion of the course (online Part 1) in a convenient self-paced format and offer a written exam, conducted online through the American Heart Association’s website.

Upon completion of Part 1, students must pass the Skills Practice (part 2) and Testing (part 3) with our certified American Heart Association Instructor. Part 1, you will access and pay for the course through the following AHA website: http://onlineaha.org/

Part 2 & 3 Skills Practice/Testing Sessions
