Students in the Service and Leadership Scholar program become intentionally and civically engaged while building academic and career skills.
Interested students can download the Service Scholar Program Application. The completed application (read carefully) can be scanned and emailed to connections@tif2005.com or printed and dropped off/mailed to College Hall 151.
Service and Leadership Scholar Requirements:
Scholars can meet program requirements through a variety of tracks:
- Complete at least 40 hours of community service/service learning related to degree or career goals (Must be above and beyond any required hours for clinicals, practicums or internships) OR
- Complete at least 40 hours of service/community engagement/leadership with a Registered Student Club or organization (RSO hours include: holding a leadership position in a club/organization, raising funds for club/organization activities) OR
- Nomination by a faculty member, staff member or classmate for an exceptional demonstration of leadership, compassion, community building and/or social justice. (Nominations invited at the 12th week of each semester. Scholar will be notified of nomination)
- All Scholars will:
- Log and submit all service hours to the Center for Campus and Community Connections (CCCC).
- Maintain records, paperwork and contact information related to the chosen community partner organization(s) or agency.
- Maintain communication with the program director and/or faculty representative
- Maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA — academic status verified by the CCCC at the end of each semester.
Program Completion:
Prior to graduation, students need to submit completed time log forms with signature verification. Upon approved completion of all program requirements students will receive a certificate and a red, white and silver cord to wear at commencement. Service and Leadership Scholars will be recognized during commencement and will have a notation of service and leadership scholarship on their official Owens transcript.
