Start your career in Law Enforcement with the Owens Professional Law Enforcement Officer program
The Owens Professional Law Enforcement Officer program prepares you to enter the law enforcement field or enhance your current career with an associate’s degree.

The Owens Professional Law Enforcement Officer program offers expert instruction from professionals within the field of law enforcement to include attorneys, police officers, deputy sheriffs, corrections, probation and parole officers, as well as state and federal agents.
This program is specifically designed for those who are pursuing a career in law enforcement, community policing, crime prevention, juvenile justice, and public safety, providing training in criminal law, court proceedings, victimology, professional standards, and all the necessary skills needed to be successful in law enforcement.
About the Owens Law Enforcement Officer Program
The first two semesters will consist of basic and general education courses as well as fundamental criminal justice courses.
Semesters 3 and 4 involve the completion of the Ohio Peace Officer Basic Training Academy.
Founded in 1970, the Owens Basic Peace Officer Training Academy is the premier open training academy among community college programs in the State of Ohio, with a 99.4% completion rate. Agencies from across the United States recruit graduates of this program.
The Basic Peace Officer Academy is the state-mandated program for all peace officers in the State of Ohio. This mandated training includes patrol operations, firearms, defensive tactics, criminal investigation, and use of high-tech equipment, to name a few.
Those who successfully complete the academy portion are eligible to sit for the Ohio Peace Officer Certification Exam.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the requirements of the State of Ohio, certain pre-requisites must be met prior to entering the academy portion of this degree. Please be sure to contact the program advisor to discuss these requirements.
